KPSS Score Types: P3, P93, P94 Explained

KPSS Score Types: P3, P93, P94 Explained

You can see dozens of score types on a KPSS result document, but three of them concern the vast majority of candidates: P3 (bachelor's level), P93 (associate degree level), and P94 (secondary education level). These three are the main scores used for central placement in Group B public personnel posts. All three are calculated from an equally weighted (50% - 50%) combination of the General Ability and General Culture tests.

Most Common KPSS Score Types

Score Type Level Weight Where Used
P3 Bachelor's Degree GA 50% + GC 50% Central placement for Group B posts, applications for many institutional exams
P93 Associate Degree GA 50% + GC 50% Associate degree level Group B posts
P94 Secondary Education GA 50% + GC 50% Secondary education level Group B posts
P1 Bachelor's Degree GA 70% + GC 30% Entrance exam applications for certain institutions
P2 Bachelor's Degree GA 60% + GC 40% Entrance exam applications for certain institutions
P122 / P123 / P124 Secondary / Associate / Bachelor's GA-GC + DHBT Presidency of Religious Affairs positions

Apart from these, ÖSYM calculates many other score types with heavier weights on Field Knowledge tests for Group A positions (such as inspectors, specialists, and assistant auditors). Which institution requires which score type is specified in their own job announcements. For details on DHBT scores, check our article on what DHBT is.

How Is the KPSS Score Calculated?

The calculation follows three steps:

  1. Find the net score. For each test: net score = correct answers − (incorrect answers ÷ 4). In other words, four incorrect answers deduct one correct answer.
  2. Convert net scores into standard scores. ÖSYM converts raw net scores into standard scores using the average and standard deviation of all candidates who took the exam that year.
  3. Apply weights. Based on the score type (for example, GA 50% + GC 50% for P3), a weighted total is taken and scaled into the final KPSS score.

The practical takeaway is this: there is no fixed answer to "how many points does X net score give?" The same net score can yield a higher score in a difficult exam year and a lower score in an easy year. Therefore, set your targets based on previous years' minimum appointment scores rather than net score counts.

Is There a Passing Cut-off Score in KPSS?

There is no passing threshold for central placement; you are placed in your preferred post based on your score ranking among candidates choosing that post. However, keep two exceptions in mind:

  • Some institutions require a minimum score requirement of 70 or 80 for applying to their entrance exams (common especially for Group A posts).
  • Job announcements may include additional eligibility criteria such as degree department, certificates, or age limits. Even if your score is high enough, you cannot apply if you do not meet these requirements.

How Long Are KPSS Scores Valid?

As a general rule, KPSS scores remain valid for two years—until the next exam at the same level. Since the Bachelor's exam takes place every year, bachelor's candidates can refresh their score annually. Because Associate Degree and Secondary Education exams take place every two years (see differences between levels), 2026 scores remain valid until the 2028 exam.
