The Class Garden
(1) Every spring, Ms. Lopez's second-grade class grew a garden behind the school. This year, the children planted carrots, beans and pumpkins.
(2) One Monday, Jada saw that some carrot tops had been chewed. "Something is eating our garden!" she cried. The next day, even more carrots were gone.
(3) The class had a meeting. Leo wanted to stay at school all night to watch, but Ms. Lopez said that was not safe. Then Jada had an idea. "Rabbits can't climb well. What if we build a fence?"
(4) On Friday, Jada's dad helped the class put a short wire fence around the garden. After that, no more carrots went missing.
(5) In the fall, the class picked a big orange pumpkin. They put it by the front door of the school so everyone could see it.
