Question 1
A yellow diamond shows an arrow that bends sharply to the right. What should you do?
Correct answer: D
A bent arrow on a warning sign shows the shape of the road ahead. Slow down before the turn, not in the middle of it.
-
Question 2
A yellow plaque reading 25 MPH is mounted under a curve warning sign. What does it tell you?
Correct answer: B
An advisory speed plaque shows how fast the curve can be taken safely in good conditions. The legal limit is on a white regulatory sign; in bad weather you may need to go even slower than the plaque.
-
Question 3
A yellow sign reads RIGHT LANE ENDS. What does it mean?
Correct answer: C
The lane on the right is about to end, so drivers in it must find a gap and merge left. Drivers already in the left lane should help by keeping a steady speed and leaving space.
-
Question 4
A yellow sign shows a truck on a slope. What does it warn you about?
Correct answer: A
This sign warns of a steep hill going down. Check your speed before the hill and use a lower gear so you do not overheat your brakes.
-
Question 5
A yellow sign reads DIVIDED HIGHWAY BEGINS. What does it tell you?
Correct answer: D
A divided highway has a median or barrier between directions. Keep to the right of the median; when the divided section ends, you will share the road with oncoming traffic again.
-
Question 6
A yellow sign shows two arrows pointing in opposite directions, one up and one down. What does it mean?
Correct answer: B
This sign is used when a one-way road or a divided highway changes into a road with traffic in both directions. Expect oncoming vehicles in the next lane.
-
Question 7
A yellow sign shows a traffic light symbol. What does it warn you about?
Correct answer: A
The signal-ahead sign is used where a curve, hill or other obstacle hides the light until you are close. Be ready to stop.
-
Question 8
A yellow sign shows a car with wavy skid marks behind it. What should you do?
Correct answer: C
The slippery-when-wet sign warns that the pavement loses grip when wet. Reduce speed and avoid sudden braking or steering there.
-
Question 9
Several yellow signs with large arrow points (chevrons) are posted along the outside of a curve. What are they for?
Correct answer: D
Chevron signs outline the curve so you can see its shape, especially at night. They mean the curve is sharp enough that you should slow down before entering it.
-
Question 10
An orange diamond sign shows a person holding a flag. What should you do?
Correct answer: A
The orange color marks a work zone, and the symbol warns that a flagger is ahead. A flagger's signals must be obeyed just like a traffic sign.
